One of the types of rabbits we raise are Satin Angora rabbits.  These rabbits produce some of the finest wool available for spinning.  It’s high prized for it’s warmth and the halo effect it gives to projects.  It also felts well, and is incredibly warm.

Angora rabbits have links back to the mid 1600s in England where they were raised for their wool.  There are some possible earlier links, but they aren’t confirmed, and may never be confirmed.  Spreading throughout Europe, they started splitting into different breeds depending on the characteristics they were bred for.

Satin Angoras are a fairly recent breed, created in Canada from cross-breeding French Angora and satin rabbits.  It was first recognized by ARPA in 1987.
